Alipay apologizes for Insider Data breach


Alipay, Chinese biggest Online payment provider, Subsidiary of Alibaba Group, has apologized to its users for an insider data breach in which user's personal information compromised.

According to local news report, a former employee have obtained personal information of 20Gb in 2010.  He sold the obtained information to others.

The compromised information includes users' names, cellphone numbers, e-mail addresses, home addresses and purchase records.

Alipay in a statement said that the leaked data revealed only transaction information before 2010 and it excluded sensitive information such as usernames and passwords.

Alipay said that it uncovered the surreptitious activity during the internal audit in 2012 and reported to Police.
